Marangu Route

Day 1: Arriving

Trekkers organise their own flights to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). African blissful safaris will arrange a private transfer to your hotel in Moshi town. That night or early the next morning you will meet our  representative and have a pre-climb briefing.

Day 2: Horombo Hut

After breakfast,we drive to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate,register and commence the climb.We will walk through the rainforest to the Mandara encampment and you will get a chance to see the towering Eucalyptus trees,birds and blue monkeys. A side trip to Maundi Crater is a good way to see the surroundings.

Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Day 4: Rest Day at Horombo Hut

Today will be for acclimatisation. We will take a short day hike to the Mawenzi Ridge (14,400 ft). From there you will have a clear view of Kibo and Mawenzi. After spending a few moments in the area we will descend back down to Horombo Hut.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

We will ascend leaving behind the last water point walking into the saddle of Kilimanjaro between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi to reach Kibo Hut (15,400 ft) at the bottom of the crater wall. The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for an early morning final ascent.

Day 6: Kibo Hut to Summit to Horombo Hut

Very early in the morning around midnight we will commence the climb to the summit on steep and heavy scree or snow up to Gilman’s point located on the rim. We continue with the ascent to Uhuru Peak, which is the highest point in Africa. There are unbelievable views at every turn.Have your photograph taken at the summit to show your friends and family. From here we descend,stopping for lunch and a rest at Kibo before continuing on to the Horombo encampment.

Day 7: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

A steady descent takes us down through the moorland to Mandara Huts. We then continue descending through a lovely lush forest on a good path to the Kilimanjaro National Park gate at Marangu where you will be transferred back to your lodge in Arusha for a nice warm shower, dinner and celebration.

Day 8: Departure

After a much-needed night’s rest, we will bid you goodbye. If you have arranged for the transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), plan for a wildlife safari or Zanzibar beach, The African Blissful Safaris guide will collect you in the morning for your onward journey.
